MAN CONVICTED FOR RAPING 8 YEAR OLD GIRL

Nigeria is not among the countries with the highest cases of rape but if the current trend in child rape is not checked, we may soon join the list.

Cases of rape is lowest in northern Nigeria
According to a report in the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, one farmer,  Umar Yakubu allegedly raped an eight years of girl. You think it’s a barbaric act? We’re on the same page on this.
This man who is 25years old according to the report committed this despicable act Dingare Village in Kaugama Local Government area of Jigawa state.
The northern part of Nigeria is known to have lowest cases of rape. This may not unconnected with strict adherence to Islamic teachings and  a culture that frowns at western way of life.
His punishment……..
The police arranged the man before a Hadejia High Court in Jigawa on
Wednesday where he was eventually sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, without an option of fine. He was charged under section 282 of the Penal Code but the judge, Justice Ubale Ahmed, convicted and sentenced him under section 283 of the penal code based on evidences and his submissions before the court.
The judge said the court was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that he was guilty as charged.
I strongly hope this will serve as a deterrent to other paedophiles out there. Our children must live freely in our community without fear of molestation.
Do you think this sentence is commensurate with the crime?
